The 1769-IM12 is a high-voltage digital input module for Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 systems. It provides 12 distinct 200/240V AC input channels, enabling the controller to interface with high-voltage field devices such as push buttons, limit switches, and motor starter auxiliary contacts. All inputs are grouped into a single common, simplifying wiring in high-density industrial control panels.

The 1769-IM12 is compatible with CompactLogix 5370 L1, L2, and L3 controllers, as well as the 1769-AENTR distributed I/O adapter. Recommended power supply units include:
1769-PA2 (AC Power)
1769-PB2 (DC Power)
1769-PA4 (AC Power, High Capacity)
1769-PB4 (DC Power, High Capacity)
The module is designed for open-type enclosures and can be mounted on DIN rails or panels. Since all 12 inputs share an internal common, ensure connected field devices are on the same phase to avoid potential-difference issues. The module’s power supply distance rating is 8 slots; it must be installed within 8 slots of the associated power supply to ensure adequate backplane current.
What is the purpose of the internal common in the 1769-IM12?
The internal common simplifies wiring by reducing the number of external terminal blocks needed for the return path. All 12 inputs reference the same neutral/return point.
Can this module be used with 120V AC signals?
No. The 1769-IM12 is rated for 200/240V AC. Using 120V AC will not reach the minimum On-State threshold of 159 V AC. For 120V applications, consider the 1769-IA8I or 1769-IA16 modules.
